2019 NFL Draft – Round One

Results of the First Round in the 2019 NFL Draft…. in case you missed it.

Round 1 Pick 1. Arizona Cardinals: Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma. The 2018 Heisman Trophy Winner, Murray has the NFL dream arm, great skill-sets in the pocket, has a quick release in RPO situations, small, fast and elusive. And he likes baseball.

Round 1 Pick 2. San Francisco 49ers: Nick Bosa; DE Ohio State University.  Touted as being one of the top two players in the draft, despite missing most of the 2018 college season with a groin injury.  A pass rushing phenom coming from a family of pass rushers.

Round 1 Pick 3. New York #Jets: Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama.  The Outland Trophy winner last year is a top defensive lineman in this class. Despite having 2 years at Alabama, people feel he could be Pro Bowl level very soon.

Round 1 Pick 4. Oakland #Raiders: Clelin Ferrell, DE Clemson This elite pass rusher accrued many accolades during his college career. With his athletic ability, he’s for sure looking to achieve great things at the next level.

Round 1 Pick 5. Tampa Bay #Buccaneers: Devin White, ILB, LSU’s first Butkus award winner, and a sophomore captain. White is an athletic, sideline to sideline type of player, who is looking to wreak havoc at the NFL level.

The 2019 NFL draft is almost here

Sonja Greenfield, Senior NFL Reporter

By Sonja Greenfield //@Mom23RN

What can I say about the draft that hasn’t already been said? Not too much. We’ve already had an infinite amount of mock drafts. There’s been tons and tons of speculation about whose stock is rising, and whose is falling. We’ve broken down pretty much every play from every game of the possible top 10 draft picks and then some. We’ve heard the different trade scenarios.

I know who I want my team to take, I know who I don’t want them to take.  I know that their GM has ideas of his own that could throw a wrench into my hopes and dreams, and I’ve

We’re all trying to look into a giant crystal ball to see how it’s going to shake out, but none of us know how it’ll actually will. Which is why this is my least favorite time of the NFL year. I’m sorry. I’ve tried to get around it, but I can’t.

Nashville to add music to the 2019 NFL draft

Kate Arhar
Senior Sports Editor

By Kate Arhar // @ClvlndK8

The 2019 NFL draft is this week in Nashville, TN. When this was first announced, it was a bit hard for me to reconcile Nashville, Music City, with the hard-grinding men of the NFL.

Well, they’ve gone and one it – added music to the list of draft festivities, giving visitors a multitude of options on how to spend time waiting for their team to make a pick!

Here’s all the information from the press release that you’ll need if you are making the trip!

The NFL and the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp announced that MOON TAXI, an indie-alternative rock band founded and based in Nashville, will kick off the 2019 NFL Draft Experience with a free performance on the Draft Main Stage on Thursday, April 25.

The performance is part of the 2019 NFL Draft Experience – a free three-day football festival, held outside of Nissan Stadium, that will feature a variety of activities for fans of all ages.

What will the Cardinals do with their draft pick?

Marquita Quinones
NFL reporter

By Marquita Quinones //@LatinLove729

I can’t believe it but the 2019 NFL Draft is only days from now, and you best believe there is going to be a lot of action going on. NFL is already full of buzz around the potential first round picks and the Arizona Cardinals are the focus of that buzz.

Many experts believe that the Arizona Cardinals will choose quarterback Kyler Murray as their number one pick. As expected, the Cardinals are staying quiet and are taking a stance on not knowing where the organization stands with the first overall pick.

“We are not done with this process,” general manager Steve Keim said, per Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith. “We have not made a decision on the first overall pick. There are a number of players in my opinion, and our scouts’ opinion, and our coaching staff’s opinion, that warrant being the first overall selection.”

Keim may portray the team as undecided as to who they will choose at number one but the majority of analysts agree that Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray is the right choice. Murray has been viewed as a projected franchise QB. If the Cardinals want to be in the mix of playoff talks, they can’t pass on the opportunity of a player who is deemed to be an NFL starter.

Lock it in. Final 2019 NFL mock draft

Lisa Johnson
Senior Sports Reporter

By Lisa Johnson //@LJ1303

As we roll into the final week until the 2019 NFL draft, it is time. Here it is, my final mock draft prediction. I did not go into much detail on any trade up or down scenarios, just a couple of guesses, even though I do believe we will see at least 2 trades during the first round.

The reality is, we as sportswriters, fans, bloggers, and yes, even expert NFL analyst, just don’t know for 100%. We all make the best educated guess possible. We love to play the GM game.

This year’s draft to me is one of the most unpredictable drafts we have had in quite some time, and that number 1 pick will set the tone. Then I expect a fast and furious first round from then on!!!

Breaking Down the Green Bay Packers 2019 Season, pt 1

Lucy Rendler-Kaplan
Green Bay Packers Reporter

By Lucy Rendler-Kaplan //@lucyrk78

I don’t think anyone that knows me doubts how fervent a Packers fan I am. To say last season was disappointing almost minimizes how bad it really was. AND it was the second year in a row Green Bay missed out on the postseason.

I’m the first one to say, “This will be our year!” but there are a lot of unknowns – mainly because the Packers have a new head coach in Matt LaFleur.

Here’s the full, 16-game schedule facing the Packers in 2019:

Looking at the LA Rams 2019 schedule

Lucy Rendler-Kaplan
LA Rams Reporter

By Lucy Rendler-Kaplan // @lucyrk78

The NFL has released the 2019 regular season schedule, and it’s almost time for the Rams to defend their status as NFC Champions.

It’s not the easiest start to the season.

Almost immediately, the Rams have to face their newest big rival as the New Orleans Saints make the trip to LA.

Then, just the next week there’s a second road game with the Cleveland Browns, who have made some incredible pick-ups during this offseason. The Rams haven’t faced the Browns since 2015, but they won that game mightily, coming off with a 24-6 win.

The hype of the 2019 NFL schedule release

Kate Arhar
Senior Sports Editor

By Kate Arhar // @Clvlndk8

I don’t believe any entity in sports knows how to create hype for seemingly innocuous events quite like the NFL.

This week they released the 2019 schedules in prime time. Social media was on fire with love/hate from each fanbase. And some teams spared no expense on video excellence in sharing their schedule with everyone.

Perhaps it’s just because so many teams don’t have a first-round pick in next week’s draft – Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, New Orleans – or maybe fans are just so hungry or anything football related, but the excitement surrounding this year’s reveal was amazing.

Do quarterbacks have to be leaders?

Sonja Greenfield, Senior NFL Reporter

By Sonja Greenfield //@Mom23RN

I’m taking a break from my quarterback series to discuss a trait found in some quarterbacks. Leadership.

Leadership has come into question quite a bit in the past month or so, especially among the quarterback position.  Specifically Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger,   whose leadership skills have recently been called out.

Of course, this could be just some silly, off-season stuff to keep us talking.  If so, I fell for it. But it did get me to thinking, do quarterbacks really have to be good leaders?  I don’t think it’s a true requirement.  Respect, yes.  Leadership skills? I’m going to go ahead and say no, and this is why.
