With the Oakland Raiders on HBO’s Hard Knocks this season, any and everything associated with the team and its players generates buzz amongst sports media. The mishaps reported between episode 1 and 2 have Raiders Fans excited for more.
This season Hard Knocks is the perfect hype leading up to the season opener on Monday, Sept. 9th against the Denver Broncos at the Black Hole in Oakland.
This week’s episode began with a team meeting, in which head coach Jon Gruden immediately captured the attention of his players (and the audience) by dropping a couple of F-bombs. He also exclaimed that he wants ‘better execution and etiquette in practice’. He then hypes up the players by telling them to “Pick it up!” and stick their foot up somebodies [expletive].
As a Raiders fan for over 25 years, the pirate theme is one that resonates with all of us. Much like pirates, Raiders fans have often attempted to justify a horrible ending season with a curse of some kind, or misfortune.
From quarterback curses to tuck-rules, you can imagine my reaction when I learned The Oakland Raiders were chosen to be featured on season 14 of Hard Knocks.
It had never been my life endeavor to become a sports writer. I just kind of fell into it. Several years ago I was approached by Liz Panucci, the founder of a site called NFLFemale.com. She asked, ‘Do you want to write about your Raiders?’. The next thing I knew I was the Official Fan Reporter for the Oakland Raiders at NFLFemale.
My love of football began when I was a child. My father coached football at a local high school. Since I was a “Daddy’s’ Girl” I was either with him while he was coaching, or with him and his friends watching USC football or The L.A. Rams.
NF: Where did you learn about football – When? and from Who?
TL:I began to learn about football from watching my father coach a local high school football team. I was just a kid, about 4 or 5 years old. My father would take care of me on the weekends. In addition to watching him coach I would watch USC football and Rams games with him.
NF: Priorities of Life – What are your top 3?
TL:My top 3 priorities in life are my health, my closest friends and family, and obviously my life revolves around sports (More specifically football).
