I never cared about football until January 9th, 2011. Growing up in a country with its heart set on soccer, and born within a family of soccer enthusiasts, football was always the odd sport for me.
Even when I went to study at a football-crazed high school and college (Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education), I never attended a game. I went out of my way to avoid interacting with players, coaches, and matches. Why, then, am I now writing an article about my love for the Green Bay Packers?
My dad used to always ask me if the Atlanta Braves had won when I was a teenager. Finally, I figured out who they were, and followed them. As I got older, I started paying attention more to sports. First baseball, then onto football.
Being born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Michigan Football was a way of life. Ohio State is the enemy, and that’s just how it was. My love for college football grew, and eventually expanded to the NFL. I enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos win the Super Bowl in ’98 and ’99. When I came back from college, I moved to downtown Detroit. Right across from what would eventually be the Detroit Lions new home. I loved football, so I was all about the Detroit Lions.
My love of the NFL game started when I was a teenager, playing a board game called Strat-O-Matic Football with one of my brothers. Basically, it is the old school version of a Madden NFL video game. We spent many fun hours coaching our teams. The game came down to strategy, both offense and defense, and a simple roll of the dice.
I have had a soft spot for the Miami Dolphins since the ‘80s. It was during their dominant years with quarterback Dan Marino that I really became hooked. I attended my first live NFL game November 18, 2010 at SunLife Stadium in Miami. What a milestone.
It had never been my life endeavor to become a sports writer. I just kind of fell into it. Several years ago I was approached by Liz Panucci, the founder of a site called NFLFemale.com. She asked, ‘Do you want to write about your Raiders?’. The next thing I knew I was the Official Fan Reporter for the Oakland Raiders at NFLFemale.
My love of football began when I was a child. My father coached football at a local high school. Since I was a “Daddy’s’ Girl” I was either with him while he was coaching, or with him and his friends watching USC football or The L.A. Rams.
I fell in love with football when I was in the 5th grade. My family tried to brainwash me to like baseball and soccer, but they did succeed in making me a Los Angeles Lakers fan; but that’s for another day. I volunteered to play flag football one lunch recess and for my first run, I completed a first down and the rest is history. It really was that simple.
That same day, I had my brother explain the basics of football to me and though I had no particular team I was rooting for, I followed quarterbacks Kurt Warner and Brett Favre throughout their journey as two of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game.
Introducing Wanda Wiedman: Official Chicago Bears Reporter // @WandaW63
I met the love of my life who happened to be from the
Windy City of Chicago! Though I am more of the jock than he is, we are
still a football family. We have been married for 25+ years. My son and daughter are grown adults, one of them in college. I admit I am a football junkie. I love hearing about it, watching
it and talking about it.
As a family, we hold our allegiances to the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Blackhawks. However, I have a special place for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
It was the encouragement of my children that brought me to write about the game I
love. I started blogging and that led me to write for NFL Female, now OurTurf Football.
I love to play Fantasy Football and won two of our leagues taking first
place! I host a Fantasy podcast, Third and Short with our Cleveland Browns Reporter, Kate. I’m a displaced fan, and I will be attending my first game at Soldier Field in 2017, and hoping to make it a yearly thing!

Introducing: Beth Auckland, Official Reporter Washington Redskins // @bauckland
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS! Between the months of July and January every year, this is my motto, an everyday utterance that is echoed by people around the world. Why? And just who am I that this simple four word phrase has such meaning to me? Well, that’s easy……
My name is Beth and I’m a die hard Redskins fan!!!
People always ask “Why are you such a fan of the Redskins? They haven’t done anything since 1992 when they won Super Bowl 26.” The answer is simple, my dad introduced me to the Redskins when I was a wee little one and he was introduced to the Redskins by his father, so it’s a family thing.
My dad was in the military and growing up, weekends were quality time with dad. In the fall/winter that quality time consisted of football. It didn’t matter if it was watching my brother play Pop Warner and eventually high school football or sitting on the couch Saturday and Sunday watching college (USC Trojans) and NFL (the Redskins if they were on), football was god in our house.
