2019 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement

Each year, I look to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festivities as the start of football season and a warning that summer is coming to an end.

It’s something I love to attend every year, whether as a fan of this amazing game or, as I was this year, a member of the media. As I drive down State Route 77 and finally see Tom Benson Stadium in the distance, I get chills. Every single time.

Every class brings me something to look forward to; a player I loved or a team I hated, it doesn’t matter. And this year’s class is no different.

The 2019 class of enshrinees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame included four defensive players, two offensive players, and two front office gentlemen. And, as always, each one gave a speech that left a solid imprint in my mind.

Football is BACK! Pro Football Hall of Fame Game 2019

It wasn’t pretty. And the final two minutes may have been the biggest mess I have ever seen. (Three false starts? In a row? Are you kidding me????)

But – it was FOOTBALL!

At times, it wasn’t much fun for fans of the Atlanta Falcons or the Denver Broncos.  At times it was amazing.

If you’ve missed it as much as I have, then knowing that the season is finally here was enough to keep you excited throughout the game.

Tony Gonzalez: PFHOF Class of 2019

The tight end position will be well represented with the induction of Tony Gonzalez. Ranked among the best, he joins only nine other tight ends in the hall and the only one as a first-time ballot.

Gonzalez follows such NFL greats as Davis Gasper, Mike Ditka, John Mackey, Ozzie Newsome, Charlie Sanders, Shannon Sharpe, Jackie Smith, and Kellen Winslow.

He is only the second Hall of Famer to attend the University of California, Berkeley, the other being Les Richter.  He competed in two sports, football and basketball at Berkeley and the combination of skills showed on the field with amazing results.
