Here’s to the Packers’ 2017 season

By Marcela Vargas // @ethne88

Reflecting on the past, these are my views and hopes toward the 2017 season for the Green Bay Packer

Last season was a slippery slope for the Packers’ fans. It started out with the high note of having WR Jordy Nelson back from a year-long absence due to a torn ACL, but then went south when the team hit a 4-6 mark that looked like the season was already lost.

Then came Aaron Rodgers’ famous “run the table” press conference, where he almost got too cocky about the team’s chances to come back from that. But the Packers delivered. They ran the table, clinched NFC North for the 5th time in 6 years, and went on to face the Atlanta Falcons for the NFC Championship. That 44-21 score felt like the worst of times.

The 2016 playoffs showcased both the strengths and the weaknesses of the team. Looking back on them, one thing is crystal clear: while having Aaron Rodgers as a quarterback and as a leader is a huge strength for the Packers, depending on him has become a liability over the years.

Packers Draft 2017: their need, picks and my excitement

By Sueli Loiola // @Su_firstavenger

Finally, the season is coming soon, but we’ll have to wait a bit more. This draft 2017 made us dream a little bit more and certainly, we had some impressive surprises from general manager Ted Thompson. Before we start to chat about the picks and our expectations about the NFL Draft at Philadelphia, let’s remember briefly how we left the Green Bay Packers last year.

Packers started the season with a lot of excitement, but once again we had some problems. Players were injured; actually the most important players were out. Some for a short term and others a long one. Also, It wasn’t the best Aaron Rodgers’ season at all. His leadership and ability was questioned.

After a dark period, Aaron came up and shared a message for all Packers fans “Let’s run the table”. Like a miracle, the Packers weren’t the same and Aaron recovered his confidence. At least now the fans were more confident in the team. So, things started to happen and then, they were in the NFC Championship game. The fans were very pleased and confident, Packers could get to Super Bowl. The team finally had a great chance, once again. Unfortunately, the Atlanta Falcons were on their way and the dream was gone.

The season finished for us, but it was just for a moment. The team, coaches, GM and so on needed to stop and think what was good and what went wrong during the season. Also, they urgently needed to make this next season better than the last one. They let go some players such as Eddie Lacy and TJ Lang for example. The Packers should think strategically about what their needs are for this moment. Continue reading “Packers Draft 2017: their need, picks and my excitement”

Breaking Down Green Bay Packers’ 2017 Draft Picks

By Lucy Rendler-Kaplan // @LUCYrk78

I’m the first to admit it. I’m a sap. I feel things too deeply. Because of that, I cry through the NFL Draft every year. Don’t get me wrong – it’s one of my most favorite weekends, and I look forward to it all throughout the winter. But I still cry, watching so many people’s lives change in an instant. It’s so exciting to watch these players achieve something they’ve been working daily for, most likely since they were tiny. And it’s not just their lives that change – it’s their families and their friends, and their future families.

But! This year was different. Almost immediately, I was in too much shock to get too emotional. I know that I’m a rare Chicagoan, choosing the Green Bay Packers as my favorite team over the Chicago Bears. I don’t know exactly how or when this started, but I’ve been a Packers fan for at least 15 years. I don’t wish ANY other teams ill will, especially my home team; that’s one of the best parts about being a Packers fan – we’ve got such a good team that I don’t need to smack talk other teams or players, to make myself feel better about my favorite team. They’re just that good!
