Detroit Lions 31 – Green Bay Packers 0

Some Lions fans are upset this New Year’s Eve.

According to them, the Lions can’t even tank correctly.

The Lions, who had their first shutout win since 1996, their first shutout of The Packers since 1973, and their first shutout win IN Green Bay since 1970 should be happy.  Despite the fact that Green Bay isn’t who they were a few years ago, a win in Green Bay is still a win. Their 4th straight over the Packers at that. A shutout is even sweeter.

The defense came together and played lights out.  Special teams got it together and even had a fake punt for a touchdown.  Running back Zach Zenner even made a run at a 100-yard rushing game, though he finished with 93 rushing yards.  While it was a rocky season, it still ended on a positive note, and I’ll take that any day.

Since we already knew that this team was going to at least pick in the top 10, the eighth spot hasn’t been bad, especially in recent years.

In looking back in the past few years, here is who has been available in the 8th spot:

  • 2018:  Linebacker Roquan Smith.  We know what an impact he has had in Chicago.
  • 2017:  Running back Christian McCaffrey. Yeah, he’s been good for the Panthers.
  • 2016:  Tackle Jack Conklin.  He’s helped on that offensive line in Tennessee for sure.
  • 2015:  Linebacker Vic Beasley.   While he’s had some issues the past year or so, he still was a big part of the Atlanta team that made it to the Super Bowl.

Never the less, this is where the “In Quinn I Trust” fans come in.

Yes, I’m one of them.

It’s time to see if GM Bob Quinn can properly evaluate talent, and make some picks that are going to really help improve the team, and buy into the team’s philosophy that he and head coach Matt Patricia are trying to build here. Will this draft be one where the team gets it “right” and picks someone who is going to really be a difference maker not only now, but for years to come?

Time will only tell, but here’s hoping that they get the 8th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft right!
