This week, I thought I’d write about the Houston Texans.
But, I’m going to be honest with you. As I started to think about what I was going to write about, I realized that I don’t really know too much about the inner workings of the Texans. I don’t know their draft needs, who their free agents are. You know, the good stuff.
But I remembered someone who would. One of our old friends Claire. Claire used to be our Texans reporter and co-hosted our podcast. So of course, it was a no brainer to ask her! Here we go!
How would you rate the 2018 season?
The Texans 2018 season was a little better than average. Losing 4 to open the season then winning 9 straight was neat. But that loss against the Indianapolis Colts in the wild-card round sucked. Especially when the Texans could have all but wrapped up a bye in week 16. In a TTM (total Texans move), they left 2 minutes remaining on the clock for the clicking Eagles offense to come back and beat them. It basically sealed the Texans post-season fate.
What position do you think they’ll take with their 1st pick, and who do you have in mind?
I have no clue. [General manager] Brian Gaine did a great job in his first NFL draft at the helm in 2018, taking [safety] Justin Reid with the team’s first pick (3rd round). The Jordans (two TEs) and [defensive end] Duke Ejiofor have also proven to be sound picks so far. In 2019? No clue whether he with go best player available or need. Lord knows, if we don’t land offensive line and cornerback help fairly early, there may be rioting on Kirby Dr.
What happens with (defensive end) Jadaveon Clowney?
They better re-sign him and give the man all the money. The team has a kazillion dollars in cap space and he’s a ridiculously disruptive player. He scares opposing QB. What a glaring vacancy if he were to leave. It’d be huge and noticeable and a detriment to the franchise. If Clowney isn’t given a deal, I may personally riot.
It sounds like the Texans could have an eventful offseason, especially if they don’t draft well, or bring back Clowney!
After a pretty successful 2018, here’s hoping that they’re able to keep up the good momentum through free agency, the draft and the rest of the offseason!
