The AFC North needs a little Christmas!

When I looked at the AFC North before the season started, I only got one thing right – the Cincinnati Bengals would finish at the bottom.

Who knew Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger would need season-ending surgery?

Who thought Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson would not only stay healthy but be the top candidate for league MVP?

And my Cleveland Browns? Don’t get me started…

With this being the holiday season and all, I thought I’d make a few Christmas present wishes for each of these teams.

The NFC South Walter Payton Man of the Year nominees

Kate Arhar
Senior Sports Editor AFC North and NFC South

By Kate Arhar // @ClvlndK8

This week, the nominees from each NFL team were announced for one of my favorite professional sports awards, the Walter Payton Man of the Year. This award recognizes players for their volunteer and charity work, not just their play on the field. These are men of character who give back to the communities that support their NFL careers.

It was originally called the NFL Man of the Year, but in 1999, after the death of Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton, who won the award in 1977, it was renamed to honor his legacy as a humanitarian. There are currently six active layers who have won the award — Drew BreesJason WittenThomas DavisLarry FitzgeraldEli Manning and J.J. Watt.

Let’s take a look at the men who will be representing the NFC South teams as this year’s finalists…

Panthers fire Rivera – Who’s next?

Kate Arhar
Senior Sports Editor AFC North and NFC South

By Kate Arhar // @ClvlndK8

In news that shocked me this week, the Carolina Panthers have fired head coach Ron Rivera after nine seasons. If a guy can coach a team to 5-7 while their star quarterback (Cam Newton) has been out since week 2, is any coach safe in this league?

It seems as if once one team fires their head coach before the season ends, a couple of others decide to follow suit. Who else could be on the head coach chopping block before the end of the year?

By Kate Arhar // @ClvlndK8

With only a few games left in the season, for three teams in the AFC North, this weekend will have a huge impact on the playoff picture.

The Baltimore Ravens have been lighting things up and quarterback Lamar Jackson is  fast becoming a front-runner for league MVP.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns meet again for the much-anticipated re-match following their game-ending brawl of just two weeks ago.

And the Cincinnati Bengals are still fighting to get that first win of the season.

Let’s take a look at the games for this week…

Week 12 could answer the question: Who wants to win the AFC South?

Kate Arhar

By Kate Arhar // @ClvlndK8

The AFC South division is one that has been hotly contested so far this season.

With the teams all hovering around the .500 mark, this week has them going head-to-head to see who can take over the top spot.

The Houston Texans took on the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday Night Football, while the Tennessee Titans will face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at 4:05 pm EST.

While the outcome of these games won’t reveal the ultimate winner of the division, it could be the beginning of someone breaking away from the pack.

NFC South division matchups turn into blowouts

Kate Arhar
Senior Sports Editor AFC North and NFC South

By Kate Arhar // @ClvlndK8

Week 11 saw two division matchups for the NFC South, and both games ended up being blowouts.

While that in itself may not sound surprising, the resurgence of the Atlanta Falcons and their decisive win over the Carolina Panthers most definitely was a surprise – at least to me! With their third win of the season, the Falcons are now 3-7, but at least they are not alone at the bottom of the division. After losing to the New Orleans Saints, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also 3-7.

The Saints extend their lead in the division with a record of 8-2 and with the loss, the Panthers drop to 5-5 and their playoff hopes have pretty much been decimated.

It seems the Defenses came to play this week with both winners garnering four interceptions in their respective games!

Buffalo Bills want FEARLESS Josh Allen

By Heather Prusak // @haprusak

About the Author: Heather Prusak is a sports anchor/reporter for WGRZ in Buffalo. She has spent the past five years covering the Bills in her hometown after graduating from Syracuse University.

Doug Flutie, Drew Bledsoe, J.P. Losman, Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick, EJ Manuel, and Tyrod Taylor.

Those names are all too familiar to Buffalo Bills fans as a reminder of their failed attempts to find a franchise quarterback, one of the main factors in a team sustaining success in the NFL.

The Bills have been searching for their franchise guy since Jim Kelly retired and are hoping that search ended on April 26th, 2018 when Josh Allen became their highest-drafted quarterback ever.

GM Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott traded up to draft Allen seventh overall, and in his 20 career starts, Allen has shown flashes of being that guy. Flashes.

The Bills didn’t draft him that high to simply be a game-manager.

There are only a handful of NFL teams that are up for sale, but as we all know from a business perspective, money talks and essentially everything is for sale. The question is, which of the 32 teams are most likely to be on Bezos’ hit list?

NFC South – Week 10 preview

Kate Arhar
Senior Sports Editor AFC North and NFC South

By Kate Arhar // @ClvlndK8

Week 10 is here and – WOW – it’s been a weird season for the NFC South!

Quarterback issues…. coaching issues…. injury issues… you name it, they’ve seen it.

Now that the teams have all had their Bye Week, the rest of the season is going to break down into two battles: First Place in the Division or Top Five Pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

This week brings us a division match-up between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons which will impact both of those battles!
