Third & Short: Week 8 Fantasy Takes with Wanda and Kate

by Wanda Wiedman and Kate Ahar

With an exciting Week 7 in the books, let’s look at this week’s Starts and Sits.  There are six teams on a bye deserving some much-needed rest: Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans.

Kate’s Quarterback Starts:

Defenses giving up the most passing yards are the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so start the following:

Philip Rivers – Even though he has been inconsistent so far this season, a match up with the Patriots defense that has allowed 300-plus points in passing yards is worth the gamble. No team has allowed more touchdowns or fantasy points to this position.

Andy Dalton – Another inconsistent QB is Dalton. But against the Colts who are currently second with the most passing yards allowed, Dalton should be able to look like a decent QB.

Cam Newton – Last week he struggled against an aggressive Chicago Bears defense which held them to just 3 points. However, this week against the Bucs he should rack up at least 20+ points for you.

Matthew Stafford versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. The average allowed to QBs by Steelers is 16 fantasy points. Jameis Winston if you have no other option play him, Carolina Panthers will pressure him. Also not a good week for Jacoby Brissett against Cincinnati Bengals at home.

Wanda’s Running Back Starts:

Jordan Howard – The New Orleans Saints have allowed the second-most PPR points (32.3 PPG) to this position at home. Howard will find a way to break through Saints defense.

Joe Mixon versus the Colts – You can take him off the shelf for this game as the Colts have allowed an NFL high 10 touchdowns to this position.

Also a good week to start Ameer Abdullah against the Steelers.  I know I have had you sit him out the past couple of weeks, but against the Steelers who have given up an average of 25.8 PPR points per game, he’s a go.

Isaiah Crowell versus Minnesota Vikings. Vikings are brutal against the run as they give up the fewest in the league. Lamar Miller versus the Seattle Seahawks. Seahawks stuff the run game pretty well this season. Thomas Rawls and Eddie Lacy versus the Houston Texans. Against a tough Texans defense they won’t do much for you.

Kate’s Wide Receiver Starts:

Start AJ Green against the Colts. Colts struggle in press coverage and Green is due for a big day.

Des Bryant versus the Washington Redskins. The Philadelphia Eagles penetrated Washington in the air and will again.

Keenan Allen versus the Patriots. Pats give up the third most PPR points to wideouts.

Jeremy Maclin against the Miami Dolphins. Dolphins defense is waking up and making it hard on wideouts. Also Will Fuller versus the Seahawks. Defense has given up the second-fewest to receivers at home. While you’re at it sit out DeSean Jackson versus Panthers. Panthers defense has only surrendered an average of 120.3 yards a game to wideouts.

Wanda’s Tight End Starts:

Jason Witten versus Washington – The big-bodied veteran will do nicely against the Redskins who have given up an average of 107.5 yards to TEs and 19.4 PPR points.

Kyle Rudolph versus the Cleveland Browns – Rudolph has been pretty quiet as of late but the Browns have surrendered the most catches to TEs.

Cameron Brate versus the Panthers. TEs a weakness for Panthers in the end zone.

Coby Fleener versus the Bears. Bears have only surrendered one touchdown to a TE this season. Eric Ebron versus Steelers won’t get far with Steelers secondary nor will Jesse James versus the Detroit Lions.

Wanda and Kate’s Starts for Kickers and Defense:

Start- Jake Elliott versus the San Francisco 49ers and Justin Tucker versus Dolphins

Sit –Zane Gonzalez versus Vikings and Connor Barth versus Saints.

Start- Kansas City Chiefs against the Denver Broncos. The last two defenses to face the Broncos had a total of 47 fantasy points!  Also start the Eagles versus the 49ers.

Sit -Bears against the Saints.  As good as the Bears have been, Drew Brees will find a way to get the ball down the field. Also, sit out Broncos against the Chiefs. As long as Kareem Hunt is healthy he will run all over them.
