Day 2 of the Miami Dolphins NFL draft did not disappoint.

As expected by many, the Dolphins selected Mike Gesicki a 6’6 249 pound TE out of Penn State. At 22 years of age, Gesicki, a former Basketball player, had been considered as a first round talent by many scouts.

His only knock was for a lack of blocking ability. Dolphins GM Chris Grier had nothing but praise for Gesicki, seemingly not too worried about his blocking, or lack thereof.

Grier said the film, not the measurables, were what made the Dolphins fall in love in Gesicki.

“The one thing everyone talks about is him not being a great blocker,” Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said. “But there are a lot of really good tight ends and pass catchers who are not great blockers. And this kid wants to be a better blocker.”
Grier also went on to say Gesicki will be a hard matchup and provide QB Ryan Tannehill with a big target down the field. That is something this Miami Dolphins team has been lacking for years.
With the 73rd pick the Dolphins selected OLB Jerome Baker Ohio State. He’s a little undersized (in my opionion) at 6’1 225 pounds. But he does fill a need for an Outside linebacker. NFL analyst Lance Zierlein had this to say about Baker:
“Baker is a likely 4-3 weakside linebacker candidate with the range and speed to chase and tackle around the field and the coverage talent to squeeze routes from man or zone. What Baker has in athletic ability and speed, he lacks in strength and toughness against the run. Baker’s junior season failed to impress and teams will have to decide if he’s a sub-package linebacker or a three-down talent. Baker lacks instincts teams look for from the position, but it’s hard to ignore his rare speed.”

Miami will go into round 4 with 2 picks:123 and 131.
They currently have no 5th round pick.  Round 6 at 209 followed up by 2 picks in the 7th 227-229.
