NFL Free Agent Frenzy – who made a splash?

The first day of the NFL’s “Free Agent Frenzy” period is over and a few teams made quite a splash. And even though free agency hasn’t truly started, the legal tampering period has brought some great news to some teams.

This is the time of year where Armchair Experts try to predict what their teams will do and are filled with either excitement over signings or depression when their team isn’t as active as they think they should be.

While the drama surrounding the trade of Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown to the Oakland Raiders took a lot of the focus over the weekend, Monday’s free agent activity brought us all back into the mix.

The Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions made the loudest noise in adding talent to struggling teams. Their fanbases seem to be really excited about the possibilities these new players bring, but they aren’t the only teams who were active yesterday.

Here’s a list of what has happened so far…

Buffalo Bills: Running back Frank Gore, Cornerback Kevin Johnson, tight end Tyler Kroft, center Mitch Morse, defensive tackle Jordan Philips. These guys may be just what the Bills need to get things turned around. After making the playoffs in 2017, they finished just 6-10 last year. While their quarterback woes haven’t been addressed, these additions will definitely improve their roster.

Detroit Lions: WR Danny Amendola, CB Justin Coleman, DL Trey Flowers, TE Jesse James. Another team that keeps under-performing. Last year’s 6-10 record should improve just by adding these weapons for QB Matthew Stafford. We’ll have to wait and see if head coach Matt Patricia’s defense will also get better.

Chicago Bears: RB Mike Davis, CB Buster Skrine

New York Jets: LB Anthony Barr, WR Josh Bellamy, WR Jamison Crowder, (today’s hot rumor) LB C.J. Mosley

Jacksonville Jaguars: QB Nick Foles

Kansas City Chiefs: RB Carlos Hyde, S Tyrann Mathieu

Arizona Cardinals: DE/OLB Terrell Suggs

Denver Broncos: DB Kareem Jackson, OT Ja’Wuan James

Indianapolis Colts: WR Devin Funchess

Los Angeles Rams: S Eric Weddle

Miami Dolphins: TE Dwayne Allen

Minnesota Vikings: DT Shamar Stephen

Oakland Raiders: OT Trent Brown, S Lamarcus Joyner

Philadelphia Eagles: DT Malik Jackson

Cleveland Browns: DT Sheldon Richardson

San Francisco 49ers: LB Kwon Alexander

Tennessee Titans: WR Adam Humphries

Washington Redskins: S Landon Collins

Now, if your favorite team isn’t on the list, don’t despair. It’s just day one of the legal tampering period. And frankly, there are still a TON of great free agents working on deals. The smart ones are taking their time, letting the market drive the price up for their services.

And of course, like we’ve all seen in our fantasy football drafts, as good players come off the board, teams will start panicking. They will feel the need to do something big and fast to appease grumbling fans. And that’s where the crazy, silly money may come into play for these guys.
