2nd-year wide receiver Kenny Golladay has been receiving plenty of praise from the Detroit faithful the past few weeks. Despite the team’s rocky start, Golladay is emerging as a fan favorite.
Fans originally weren’t so happy with him when he was drafted. So far this season he has scored 3 touchdowns and caught 27 passes for 428 yards. He has also made some impressive catches so far this season. The catches he made last week against Green Bay were enough to make retired wide receiver and future Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson proud.

So much so, that fans feel it’s time to give Golladay a nickname. This process has been a little more complicated than I originally thought it would be. But it has been fun looking at all of the possibilities. Most fans feel Golladay’s nickname shouldn’t be anything related to Calvin Johnson’s Megatron, i.e. Babytron, and rightfully so in my opinion. He’s his own player, let him develop his own career. There will be enough comparisons to Johnson already. Let him have something that he can make his mark with.
Besides, check out this tweet:
I’m going to steal some stats from Dave Birkett, but these stats are eye-opening to me.

Yes, it’s early, but he could potentially be even better than Johnson. Ok, a long shot, I know. But still….he could be really good.
Back to Golladay’s nickname. When Green Bay Packers safety Ha-Ha Clinton Dix talked about the stiff arm that Golladay gave him, he described it like having a dinosaur arm. Which lead many fans to go with the name Gollasaurus Rex or G-Rex for short. Some of the other names that have been tossed around are Golladay Inn, Kenny The Jet Golladay, Kenny G, and “All Day”. I prefer G-Rex or All Day.
While most fans realize that the Lions do have bigger concerns to concentrate on, (i.e. run defense, pass rushing, getting rookie running back Kerryon Johnson the ball more) it is fun to be excited about G-Rex’s future.
And his nickname!
