AFC and NFC West

The NFC West is known as one of the best divisions in football, but, on occasion, can have a slow start to a season. While some of the teams seem to have gotten a good draw for week 1 of 2019, you can never count out an underdog.

I asked the fans who they thought would win each of the NFC West games this week, and the results aren’t really a surprise.

LA Rams vs Carolina Panthers
Sunday, 1p ET

The injury report for the Los Angeles Rams is exactly how head coach Sean McVey drew it up during the preseason. No Injuries Listed. By sitting his starters all preseason, McVey made it clear he wasn’t taking any chances for week 1, and it worked. Carolina, on the other hand, has 2 on their injury report, defensive end Bruce Irvin and tackle Greg Little, both listed as out.

Fans don’t seem to think the Rams will have the same “shaking off the rust” issues that the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers did in Thursday night’s opener.

Cincinnati Bengals vs Seattle Seahawks
Sunday, 4:05p ET

The hype surrounding the Bengals as been pretty subdued this offseason, and it’s carrying over to the regular season. There don’t seem to be many that have a lot of faith in Cincinnati, especially with their star wide receiver A.J. Green out. Seattle, on the other hand, has seen their stock rise in the last week with the addition of DE Jadeveon Clowney.

However, Seattle is known for slow starts in a new season, often struggling the first couple of games. Fans obviously don’t think this will be a tough challenge for Seattle.

Detroit Lions vs Arizona Cardinals
Sunday, 4:25p ET

I read on Twitter this week that there is a member of the national media who is very excited to see what Cardinals new head coach and rookie quarterback can do with the new offense. Granted most would agree that teams don’t show you their playbook in the preseason, I’m thinking Arizona fans are hoping that there is a lot more coming to the table since QB Kyler Murray didn’t have a strong showing in those games.

On the other hand, most people know what they are going to get with the Lions. A lot of QB Matthew Stafford. With the question marks surrounding the Cardinals defense, fans are going with Detroit to win this game.

And last but not least…

San Francisco 49ers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sunday 4:25p ET

If I’m being completely honest, this is one of the games I’m most excited to watch. In 2018, the 49ers couldn’t shake the injury bug, most notably losing QB Jimmy Garoppolo for the season. Tampa Bay is one of those teams that should be good but just couldn’t make the leap. 2019 looks to bring a healthy 49ers team to a Bucs team with a new, and very good, head coach in Bruce Arians, but does it? Buccaneers star WR Mike Evans is questionable with an illness, and San Francisco already has a list of injuries, including their first-round draft pick DE Nick Bosa.

The fans and I disagree on this one. I think having Garoppolo back will be a huge push for the 49ers, but the fans are going with the Buccaneers.

We will have to wait until Sunday night to see if the fans’ predictions are right. But Our Turf Football has some pretty smart fans and I think they got (almost) all of these predictions correct.
